Brazilian cement maker Votorantim Cimentos received approval from shareholders to take out a 600mn-real (US$258mn) credit line with national development bank BNDES, Valor Online reported. The Department of Minerals and Energy has granted Sephaku, a new entrant in South Africa’s cement industry a 30-year limestone mining right, the company said on Monday. The Business Standard reported that capacity utilisation for the Indian cement sector has slipped to a four year low on the slowdown in demand from construction and other sectors. Indonesia’s domestic cement consumption in October rose 24.3 per cent to 3.11Mt, industry data distributed by PT Semen Gresik Tbk showed on Thursday. State-owned Semen Gresik, the country’s largest cement maker, said its total sales in October, including exports, rose eight per cent to 1.45Mt.
