Saudi cement producers 7% drop

According to Al-Riyadh newspaper (November 3, 2008), an official report shows that the sales volume of the operating cement companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fell by SAR250m, which is equivalent to 7.1%, in the first nine months of 2008 compared with the same period last year. The report relates this sales withdrawal to the cement export suspension decision earlier this year.

Vicat moves into Mauritania

Regulators launched a dawn raid on the offices of Europe’s biggest cement producers yesterday as Brussels embarked on a new inquiry into industry practices. The Industry Solutions Division of Siemens Ltd. India, Mumbai, has won an order from Polysius AG, Beckum, to supply the complete turnkey electrical equipment to Ohorongo Cement in Otavi, Namibia. Indian producer ACC today reported a total cement dispatch of 1.7Mt in October, a decline of 3.4 per cent over 1.76Mt reported in the same month last year. The company also reported a total cement production of 1.74Mt in October this year, a fall of 1.13 per cent over the 1.76Mt production during the same month last year, ACC said in a statement.
