Votorantim to import cement amid booming domestic demand

 A tight domestic supply of cement has forced Votorantim, a traditional cement producer in Brazil, to import the product in an effort to reduce a deficit estimated at around 200,000t a month, financial daily Gazeta Mercantil reported Thursday. Holcim Hungaria acquires permit to build EUR 350m plant

Holcim Hungaria has acquired a building permit for a EUR 350m cement plant it plans to build in Nyergesujfalu (NW Hungary), Holcim Hungaria communication director Iran Marta told MTI on Wednesday. The plant will be the most modern in Europe, and will replace an outdated plant nearby at Labatlan. Holcim Hungaria had revenue of HUF 32bn in 2007. It employs about 700 staff. The company spent HUF 2.3bn on developments last year.

Oborontsement kicks off construction of cement factory

Moscow-based cement manufacturer Oborontsement has kicked off construction of a cement factory in Belgorod region, regional officials report. Investment in the project hasn’t been disclosed, but is estimated by experts at $500mln. The plant will be be built on a 100-hectare site in the region’s Krasnogvardeysky district, Marchmont Capital Partners said.
