Belarus up 9.8 per cent in first eight months

Belarus’cement output in the first eight months of 2008 totaled 2.81Mt, a 9.8 per cent YoY increase, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis. Cement output reportedly amounted to 403,400t in August, or 2.3 per cent more than in July and 14.5 per cent more than in August 2007. Russian co to build RUB16.5bn cement plant in Volgograd Region

Russian company Lider Business Finans plans to build a cement plant at a cost of about 16.5 billion rubles in the Volgograd Region, the regional government said Monday. The plant’ annual production capacity is projected at 2.4Mt of cement. The plant will be built in the region’ Olkhovsky district. It is expected to be launched in late 2011 or early 2012.

Garadagh builds new kiln line, Azerbaijan

Garadagh Cement OJSC has begun preparation for the construction of a new kiln line that will produce 400,000tpa of clinker. This will result in an increase in cement production to 1.7Mt. ACC, India’s largest cement maker, has hiked prices in south, east and Maharashtra. "We’ll have to up prices further. It is imperative that ACC raises prices to rein in the fall in margins," said Sumit Banerjee, managing director, ACC. Since August 20, cement prices in south have gone up by Rs 3-5 per bag. Saudi cement producer Arabian Cement Company (ACC) said it will receive a loan of SAR450m (US$119.8m) to finance the construction of a cement plant for Jordan-based building materials supplier Al Katrana Cement Company LLC, in which ACC owns a 95 per cent stake, Saudi Al-Riyadh daily reported on September 23, 2008. Holcim Philippines Inc has increased the retail prices of its cement by P12 per 40kg bag effective September 15, citing higher coal costs, an official said yesterday.
