GBL Owns 20.04% Of Lafarge Shares

Chilean investment group Invesa Briones’ cement producer Cementos Bío Bío has shut down a concrete plant in capital Santiago due to operational cost increases, local paper El Mercurio reported.   The firm decided to close the plant called Ready Mix Lira mainly due to hikes in fuel and electricity costs. Society suggests new site for cement plant

The African solidarity fund (ASF) granted a CFA5bn bank guarantee to Les Ciments du Golf (SCG-Benin) company in Niger to build a sub regional cement production factory, the ASF headquarters said Friday in Niamey. The ASF guarantee covers a CFA3bn loan incurred by SCG from the ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank (BIDC) and another CFA2bn loan from Beninese commercial banks. The Ministry of Industries and Mines said the country produced 19.7Mt of cement in the first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 20) showing a 21.5-per cent growth over the same period in 2007. Vietnam: cement supply will meet demand

The cement supply is more than enough to meet demand in the coming months, according to the Ministry of Construction.   Domestic producers’ cement output in the first eight months of the year reached 26.2Mt, while demand is only 25.7Mt. Cement reserves are currently at around 430,000t.   The county imported 2,530t of clinker in the first eight months of the year.

Indonesian Padang to build new factory

Cement maker PT Semen Padang in Indonesia’s West Sumatra, said it will build a new factory with an annual production capacity of 2.5Mt early next year.
