Sichuan cement ex-factory prices rise 38.3%

Phosagro AG to invest US$40.7m modernisation, Russia

Phosagro AG, the managing company of the Phosagro group, plans to invest between RUR600mn (US$24.4m) and RUR1bn (US$40.7m) in modernisation of the Soligalich cement plant in the Kostroma Region on the Volga.   The project will be carried out in three stages.   Phosagro is a major Russian chemical company headquartered in Moscow with operations across Russia. Its production facilities include Apatit, Ammophos, Cherepovetsky Azot and other companies.

Indian cement prices set to fall 15-20%

Cement production up by 5.1% YoY in January-July

Production of cement in Cyprus rose by 5.1 per cent over the year-earlier period to 1.16Mt in the first seven months of 2008, from 1.1Mt in January-July 2007.   This growth was slightly higher than in 2007, when production rose by 4.8%.   However, sales of cement this year have been totally absorbed by local production, as there were no exports of cement or clinker in the first seven months of the year.   In 2007 Cyprus exported 62,969t of cement.

Holcim raises stake in Serbia unit

Holcim has raised its stake in its Serbian unit, Holcim Serbia, by 7.08 per cent to 99.4 per cent for CSD749m (US$12m), according to local press reports.   Small shareholders currently hold 0.6 per cent in the Serbian firm.   At present, Holcim holds 2.286,3 million shares in Holcim Novi Popovac. Soaring input costs have forced mini cement units in Gujarat, India to initiate price hikes despite sluggish demand due to monsoon.
