Cimpor to increase Brazilian production capacity

Brazil’s third largest cement manufacturer, Portuguese Cimpor, is planning to invest BRL400m (US$248m) to expand its production capacity by around 30% by 2011, according to local press reports.   To meet increasing demand the company also intends to build two new plants by 2011, one in the central west region and another in the south or southeast.   The two new plants, which will have a production capacity of at least 650,000tpa each, are not part of the BRL400m investment, the report said....

Shree Cement June shipments up 27.7 per cent YoY

Shree Cement said on Wednesday its June shipments rose 27.67 per cent to 609,000t from 477,000t a year earlier.   Total shipments between April to June 2008 rose 26.42 per cent to 1.77Mt, from 1.40Mt a year ago, the company said in a statement.   The firm has a capacity to produce 8Mta of cement at its plant in the northern state of Rajasthan.

Mysore Cements’ Indian, overseas partners end pact

Mysore Cements Ltd said on Monday the agreement between its Indian joint venture partners and its overseas holders has been terminated on July 3. Congo to get second cement factory

The South Korean company, Eco Cement, plans to invest CFA51bn in the construction of a second cement factory in Madingou, in the department of Bouenza, in Southern Congo, official sources told local press. It is expected that the Congolese head of state, Denis Sassou Nguesso, will formally launch the construction of the factory by the end this month. The new cement factory, to be built under a Build, Operate and Own model, is expected to produce 500tpd of different types of cement.

Saudi cement capacity set to touch 50Mt by 2009

Saudi cement industry has benefited from the increasing demand, with the industry’s average growth reaching 8.4 per cent in 2007. According to the Jeddah-based BMG Financial Advisors, the net profit margin of cement companies averaged 58 per cent in 2007.
