Escom sets up JV in Angola to build EUR130m cement plant

Grupo Espirito Santo’s Angolan holding company Escom has set up a joint venture with Brazilian company Camargo Correa to build a EUR130m cement plant in partnership with local Grupo Gema.   The JV owns 60 per cent of Palanca Cimentos, while Gema owns the remaining 40 per cent.   The plant, to be located in the Benguela region, is expected to be built in the next three years and supply about 25 per cent of the cement to the Angolan market.   The plant will produce 600,000t of cement in the fi...

Nigerian industrial conglomerate, Dangote Group concluded a US$1.85bn financing deal on Tuesday to build four new cement plants in West Africa. Russian company Ulyanovskshifer has started building a cement plant at a cost of RUB13bn in the Ulyanovsk Region, the regional government said Monday.   The plant is expected to be launched in 2010. It will produce 1.2Mta of cement.  

Holcim Romania 2007 net profit down 34.5 per cent YoY

The Romanian unit of  Holcim said its net profit fell by 34.5 per cent YoY to RON114.5m (US$48.3m) in 2007, due to increased operating expenditure and depreciation of the domestic currency against the euro.   The company’s turnover dropped by 28 per cent on the year to RON990m (US$417.69m) last year.   Its total revenue, however, rose by 18 per cent on the year to RON1.03bn (US$434.56m) in 2007, while its total expenditure increased by 34 per cent on the year to RON895.7m (US$377.9m).   Holc...
