Hima to spend on alternative fuels

Suppliers of coffee, rice and timber husks to Hima Cement could earn sh1.5b annually, Bernard Osawa, the company’s manager for alternative fuel, has said. China’s Runji Cement located in Anhui Province has announced that it broke ground on the construction of a waste heat-fueled electric generator on May 16, 2008. Currently, electricity represents 23% of the Company’s total production costs, which is expected be reduced to approximately 15% after the completion of the project by January 2009. Railton’s cement works: asbestos survey

The cement works at Railton in Tasmania’s north west is to be the subject of an asbestos survey and research program. From the 1940s to the late 80s, Goliath Cement was Australia’s third largest producer of asbestos-based products. Now owned by Cement Australia, removal of asbestos from the site began two years ago. Market monitoring by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) shows that China’s cement market has operated steadily, with comparatively inert prices. PPC to raise cement prices again in July

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), said yesterday it would hike the price of the building material for the second time this year as manufacturers feel the squeeze of higher input costs. PPC, which has already increased the price of its cement 8,5% this year, said the hike of about 5% in July was meant to bring cement prices in line with March’s producer price inflation of 11.8%. The increase is set to escalate construction costs and drive up the government’s infrastructure spending programme. ...

ACC expansion on track

ACC is planning to expand its cement capacity from 22.4Mt to 30.4Mt by 2010. The company expects to commission its captive power plant of 30mW at Bargarh in 2009 and a plant of 25mW at Chanda in 2010. ACC has also acquired 100 per cent equity in Lucky Minmat Private Ltd to increase its limestone reserves.
