TCL files suit against Guyana

Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo has hit out at the Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL), saying the regional company was taking advantage of the Guyanese market. Cement factory to be set up in Mukalla, Yemen

The Mukalla cement company will launch next May the first construction works of a cement plant at a cost of $140m. General-director of the company Ali Ahmad Sulayman said that the factory’s annual production capacity would reach 500t in 2009, noting that the factory would provide 180 jobs. Sulayman added that the production capability of the second stage would reach 1000 tons, providing more than 250 jobs opportunities.

No cement export ban on supplies to SEZ units, India

Vietnam to import more clinker in 2008

Vietnam is estimated to import 4Mt of clinker this year, up some eight per cent against last year, according to a local trade agency on Friday.   Vietnam imported nearly 3.7Mt of clinkers in 2007, down 4.1 per cent against 2006, said the Trade Information Center under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.   Most of the clinker, key material for cement production, was imported from Thailand. Lithuania: Akmenes FY net profit doubles

Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer Akmenes Cementas (Akmene Cement) said on Friday its annual net profit more than doubled to 54 million litas (EUR15.65m) last year, up from LTL25.1m in 2006. Akmenes Cementas’ shareholders voted on Friday to set aside LTL2.4m for dividend and remuneration purposes. Cement demand outlook this fiscal (FY 09) remains healthy, driven by rising investment in construction and real estate sectors, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) said in its monthly report here.
