Cemex to double Panamanian plant’s production

Cemex has begun the expansion of its new plant in Panama - it aims to double production (to reach 2.4Mta of cement) via the investment of US$270m as the Panamanian construction trade enjoys an unprecedented boom. The cement and construction-materials group will install a clinker oven and a mill at the plant in Bayano, 50km north of Panama City, explains  Cemex’s director in Panama, Felipe Zambrano. The Mexican firm has had a presence in Panama since 1994.

Iran produced over 19Mt of cement in 6 months

Iran produced 19.737Mt of cement in the first half of current Iranian year (started March 21, 2007), the Ministry of Industries and Mines reported here on Friday. The figure shows a 13 per cent rise when compared to that of same period in previous year. Of the figure, 3.5Mt was produced from Aug. 23 to Sept. 22, indicating a nine percent rise from 2006 and 2.7 percent over its nominal capacity – 102.7 per cent.
