CRH’s Americas Materials Division completes four acquisitions for US$350m

CRH plc,  the international building materials group, announces four separate acquisitions by its Americas Materials Division for a total combined cash consideration, including debt assumed, of US$350m  (EUR 258 million). China’s cement output increased by 11.6% year-on-year in July, with the growth rate down 3.1 percentage points as compared to June, according to the information released by the Ministry of Commerce on September 10th. The Domedko Haksli company is considering building a cement plant in Russia’s Voronezh Region.     The construction cost is put at EUR150m. The capacity is one million tonnes of cement a year. South Africa builds slowly on cement sales

Cement sales in South Africa increased 10.4% year-on-year (YoY) in August 2007 according to Cement and Concrete Institute (CNCI) data. July recorded growth of 10.8% YoY. At the end of August 2007, cement sales for the 12 months were reported up to 15.293Mt from the 13.850Mt recorded a year earlier. The moving average total a month earlier - in July 2007 - was reported at 15.212Mt. Exports of cement in August were down 0.9% YoY at 177,083 tons from the 178,632t reported a year earlier.

Cementir ahead in spite of weaker Italy

Cementir increased its total grey and white cement shipments in the first half of the year by 10.1% to 5.28Mt.  In the downstream operations, ready-mixed concrete deliveries improved by 8.6% to 2.30Mm³ and the aggregates tonnage advanced by 26.2% to 1.67Mt.  Net turnover rose by 9.0% to EUR549.6m, but higher energy and transport costs did put pressure on margins, which eased from 23.5% to 22.6%.  As a result, the EBITDA improved by a more modest 5.1% to EUR 124.3m and the trading profit...

Saudi Southern Province Cement launches third cement plant

Saudi cement producer Southern Province Cement (SPC) has launched its third cement plant, board chairman, Prince Khalid al-Turki bin Turki, was quoted saying.   The facility is located on the southern Red Sea coast.
