Cement price may pick up due to higher costs: ACC

Sumit Banerjee, MD of ACC said they have not seen cement demand drop during the monsoon and the realisation has been stable. Though, he says there is a possibility of price pick up due to higher cost. ACC will improve despatches by 15-17% (MoM) in September due to expansion. He said that prices are more or less stable throughout India. ACC is looking at a capacity of 22Mt by 2008-end. A large capacity addition is likely only by 2009-end. Readymix sells part of business for EUR49m

Irish cement maker Readymix today said it has sold selective parts of its precast concrete products business to construction materials manufacturer Acheson and Glover Ltd for EUR49m in cash.     Readymix said the business reported a turnover of EUR 55.8m and an EBITDA of EUR 7.4m for the year ended December 2006.     The disposal provides an ’excellent’ development platform from which to invest in our core businesses, Readymix said in a statement.

BazelCement inaugurates restored Achinsk cement plant

BazelCement inaugurated Achinsk Cement Plant, which has been idle since 2000. The plant’s equipment survived and in April 2007 BazelCement started restoring the facility. These efforts required over $13mln worth of investments. One of the production lines has already been renewed, and two more lines may be launched within a year. Mugher Earns 409mln Birr in Gross Profit, Ethiopia

Mugher Cement Enterprise, the state-owned cement producing giant in the country, secured over 409 million birr in gross profit in the 2006/2007 fiscal year, Enterprise General Manager Tefera Abebe said.     The profit the enterprise earned in the fiscal year exceeded what the company grossed the previous year by 17 per cent, according to the manager.     During the 2006/2007 fiscal year, the enterprise produced 817,000t of cement, thereby meeting 97 per cent of its target.     The enterpr...

ACC August cement production rises 20.3%

India’s ACC cement production increased to 1.6Mt in August compared to 1.33Mt in the same month last year. Despatches for the month rose to 1.57Mt from 1.37Mt in the previous year. In January to August period, production rose to 13.44Mt from last year’s 12.48Mt and despatches increased to 13.42Mt from 12.46Mt for the said period.
