Akcansa sees cement consumption slowing

India’s Ambuja Cements says flood shuts plants

Ambuja Cements Ltd. , India’s third-largest cement maker, said on Thursday it had stopped operations at its plants in western Gujarat state after heavy rains and floods.     The company, nearly 30 percent owned by  Holcim , said in a notice to the stock exchange it was in the process of estimating losses from the flood and had full insurance cover.

The Viet Nam Development Bank (VDB) has decided to give VND810bn in credits to the Hoa Phat Cement Company for the construction of a new cement plant in northern Ha Nam province. EU approves acquisition of Hanson by HeidelbergCement

The European Commission on Tuesday approved the acquisition of British company Hanson by German cement producer HeidelbergCement.     "After examination, the commission concluded that the proposed operation would not significantly impede effective competition" in the European Union or in a substantial part of the bloc, the EU’s antitrust watchdog said in a statement.

Binani in the fray for cement JV with Nalco

Binani Cement Ltd (BCL)  has submitted an expression of interest (EoI) for a joint venture with National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco). Nalco is scouting for a joint venture partner to set up a cement plant that uses fly ash generated at its captive power plant. It aims to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the facility, which would have a capacity of producing 1000tpd of cement.
