Analysts expect Boral’s 2008 profits to be flat

Sanghi Cement has ambitious plans. It aims to contribute 13% of India’s cement production –  that’s 20Mta from 2015. Cemex says close to gaining 100 per cent of Australia’s Rinker

Cemex SA said Tuesday it is close to taking full control of Australian-listed construction materials group  Rinker Group Ltd, having gained 89.76 percent of Rinker’s issued capital through its ongoing US$14.25bn takeover offer.     Under Australian takeover law, Cemex will need to gain 90 per cent of Rinker for it to be allowed compulsory acquisition of the remaining issued capital.     Australia’s largest all-cash takeover offer is due to close on July 16.     Bell Potter Securities priv...

Moroccan minister of Trade and Economy Upgrading, Salaheddine Mezouar, at House of Representatives’ (lower House) question time, announced that cement production in Morocco will reach 24.2Mt by end 2010. The Vietnam Cement Corporation plans to invest VND10 trillion (US$620m) in building an urban town in the northern port city of Hai Phong. President of the Karachi Cement Dealers Action Committee Wali Bhai Patel on Friday condemned the increase of Rs2.50 in the prices of cement by the manufacturers. He said that prominent newspapers were publishing that cement prices had fallen to Rs210 to Rs225 per 50 kg bag, but in Karachi the prices had gone further higher, as Lucky, Falcon and Pakland cement was being sold at Rs250, Rs263 and Rs253 per bag respectively. Iran to remove cement subsidy

Iran’s cabinet is to call time on subsidy for cement, taking into account its production of 42Mta. The plan was approved on June 15, 2006 by President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, minister of commerce, and representatives from the Cement Guild Association sparked controversy in various economic societies. Some evaluate the issue positive, whereas some see it against free trade and competition. After 447 days from the enactment, at any case, the process has yet to be finalised.
