Taiwan approves China-bound investments

The Investment Commission under Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said it approved 12 applications for China-bound investments involving a total of US$214.76m. Of the total US$214.76m approved, one application was from Asia Cement Corp for investing US$15m  in its Hubei unit and a separate US$23.5m in its Huanggang unit.

Yamama Saudi Cement to open 10,000tpd plant

Yamama Saudi Cement Co. said it will start operating a new production line next month with a production capacity of more than 10,000tpd, local news reported Friday. This is expected to boost the company’s overall production capacity to about 20,000tpd and would lead to a substantial growth in sales in the second half of the current year, the report said.

The Indonesian unit of Lafarge SA is to resume production next year at a plant almost completely destroyed by the 2004 tsunami, a company official said on Wednesday.     About 80 per cent of  PT Semen Andalas Indonesia’s facilities in the city of Lhoknga in Aceh province were destroyed when the Boxing Day tsunami struck the province in December 2004.
