County OKs rezoning for cement plant

Houston County approved the rezoning of 1,976.67 acres near Hayneville for a $200m cement plant and quarry. The land sits between U.S. 341 and Ga. 247 and is accessed off of A.E. Harris Road and a Norfolk Southern rail spur. It is southeast of the Perdue Farms plant and next to the Cemex plant. The industry will add 100 jobs with salaries averaging about $42,000. Building merchants marking up cement price – PPC

Some building merchants have been placing huge mark-ups on the price of bagged cement, with one merchant in the Free State marking up the product by 50.94 per cent, according to a survey by Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC).     This was revealed this week by John Gomersall, PPC’s chief executive, when he confirmed that PPC had announced an increase of 3 percent across its range of cement products from July 1. Paper maker Emami group plans to enter the cement business and expand in real estate. The company will invest Rs 3,500 crore in the businesses. “The infrastructure sector has a huge potential and we want to take part in the growth of this sector. Holcim delays cement ship decision, New Zealand
