The ongoing correction to the residential market will continue to adversely impact  construction activity and cement consumption in 2007, according to the most recent forecast from the Portland Cement Association (PCA). Cement sales in South Africa increased 12.0% YoY in May 2007 from the 12.6% YoY increase reported in April, according to Cement and Concrete Institute (CNCI) data released. At the end of May 2007, cement sales for the 12 months were reported up to 15.07Mt from the 13.455Mt recorded a year earlier. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will partner Jaypee Associates (JAL) for a proposed 2Mt cement plant at Bokaro, Jharkhand. The two will form a JV shortly, where Jaypee would have a majority stake.
