ASEC tops Cimpor bid

Arab Swiss Engineering Company (ASEC) has launched a counterbid for Egyptian cement company MISR Cement Co. issued shortly after Cimpor unveiled its offer for the cement maker. Indonesia’s cement sales rose 18.6 percent in January from a year ago as the sector showed signs of recovery on the back of a pick-up in construction, data from the Indonesian Cement Association showed on Tuesday.     Cement sales were hurt by an economic slowdown in early 2006, but a strong recovery in the fourth quarter put the industry’s overall annual growth at 1.8 per cent last year, higher than analysts’ expectations of flat growth.     Analysts expect cement sales in the world’s fou...

Belarusian Cement Works reports 110-per cent export increase in January

The Belarusian Cement Works (BCW) increased its exports by 110 percent in January 2007, a source at the enterprise located in Kastsyukovichy, Mahilyow region, told BelaPAN.    According to the source, the works exported 2,800 tons of cement in the first month of 2007, with exports to Russia accounting for 82 per cent. Cement Production up 56.9% to 767,000t in January

In January Ukrainian cement production rose by 56.9%  compared to January 2006, to 767,000t.     In January 2007, production of cement fell by 26.9% against December 2006.     As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in December, cement production rose by 43.2% compared to December 2005, to 1,049,000t.     In 2006, production of cement grew by 12.9% compared to 2005 to 13,732,000t.     More than 15 enterprises produce cement in Ukraine, and their total annual capacity is more than 20Mt.

Three new cement production plants will commence production by the end of the Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2007). Saudi al-Ahsa plans US$320m cement plant

Vulcan Materials Co., the biggest U.S. producer of highway construction materials, said Monday that it would acquire Florida Rock Industries Inc. for $4.6 billion in cash and stock to expand in the U.S. Southeast and the mid-Atlantic region.   Florida Rock stockholders would receive either 0.63 shares of the new company or $67 in cash for each of their shares. Cement production during the January through November period of 2006 amounted to 43.6Mt, according to Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association data. The exported cement in the same period was 5.2Mt.
