Malaysian cement prices go up

Cemex in talks to buy Deepak Cements

Cemex is reportedly in talks to take over unlisted Deepak Cements & Chemicals, the DNA newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources.     The paper said that Chairman and Managing Director Hemant Pandey of Deepak Cements, a western India-based company, couldn’t be reached for comment.     The paper citing, an unnamed industry source, said negotiations between Cemex and Deepak Cements have been ongoing for the last three months but there is a gridlock over valuations.

AV Birla group`s Ultratech Cement, a manufacturer of cement, said that it may go for expansion to retain its market share in the domestic cement market.   The cement manufacturer presently produces 17Mt of cement at its five plants and controls 10% market share. Kuznetsk cement plant investment

’Caspian Resources’ of Kazakhstan, which acquired 100% of the shares of Kuznetsk Cement Plant (Kemerovo region) will invest RUR200m in the plant development in 2007, said Sergey Chernev, the plant’s Director General. The funds will enable the plant to double cement production to 700,000tpa, which will be the first stage of production development. By the beginning of 2009, production volume could grow to 1Mta.

Housing developers seek govt intervention on cement price hike

The Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) today expressed its concern over the hike in cement price announced recently and feels that the state government should intervene and request a review of the building material price. Cimpor to restructure South African subsidiary

Cimpor announced in a regulatory filing on December 28, 2006 that its South African subsidiary Natal Portland Cement Company Limited (NPC) signed a set of agreements, envisaging the restructuring of the company in accordance with the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in South African legislation. Indian cement prices are on the rise due to a tight demand-supply mismatch despite massive investments going into capacity build-up by companies.
