Vietnam: Bim Son cement plant project begins

The Vietnam Cement Corporation began construction on the Bim Son Cement project, called N2, in Thanh Hoa Province yesterday.  The company is projecting N2 will produce two million tonnes of cement per year.  The project’s estimated cost is VND4,085bn (US$255m), with the funds coming from equity capital and commercial loans.

Siam City Cement (SCCC) is expected to announce 4Q06 profit of Bt778m, down 21% QoQ, but up 18% YoY. Sales are forecast to fall 9% QoQ due to flooding in many rural areas of Thailand in 4Q06. More cement projects planned as demand leaps

The Ministry of Construction is mulling adding a number of new cement projects to the cement industry development plan as demand has been growing rapidly.     Nguyen Quang Cung, head of the ministry’s Construction Materials Department, said the cement industry’s 2006 sales grew over 13% YoY to 32.5Mt, half a million ton higher than forecast.     Demand is projected to continue to rise, so the ministry could allow more cement projects to get underway to scale up supply in the next few years...

HeidelbergCement AG has upgraded its turnover forecast for 2006 as a result of the company’s increasing sales and the favourable weather at the end of 2006, HeidelbergCement said on January 9, 2007.
