Oyak not to bid for Lafarge-Yibitas cement factories.

Celal Caglar, head of Oyak cement group, said that Oyak would not bid for the cement companies to be sold by Lafarge-Yibitas. Caglar noted that the competition board is not likely to approve the acquisition of these factories by Oyak. Cement manufacturers in Pakistan have demanded  the government to facilitate exports with a view to augmenting foreign exchange earnings. According to statistics from the cement markets in 18 key Chinese cities, the average monthly price of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) 42.5 was RMB328.2/t, up 0.7% over September, but down 0.2% over 2005. Akcansa fined for breaching competition rules, Turkey

Turkish cement producer Akcansa Cimento Sanayi, announced that it has paid a TRY 0.2mn fine imposed on the company by the competition board. The statement sent to the ISE by Akcansa noted that that the court case regarding the fine is still pending at a court. Akcansa demands the cancellation of the fine. 

Work begins on US$175.8m cement plant in Tay Ninh

Vietnam’s FICO-Tay Ninh Joint Stock Cement Co. CBMI wins contract for establishment of Hima Cement’s new plant

Uganda-based Hima Cement plans to invest US$93M in the establishment of a new plant in the Namanve Industrial and Commercial Park, near the capital city. According to local news reports, the new plant will be contracted by CBMI Construction. CBMI announced that the establishment of the new plant will be completed by 2008.

Cement sales in Portugal’s autonomous region of the Azores Islands dropped by 0.3 per cent in the 12 months to October 2006, data of the regional statistics office SREA showed.    Sales of cement on the market of the Azores Islands fell by 2.9 per cent in the three-month period, ended October 2006 alone.
