Building materials company Boral Ltd expects the New South Wales housing downturn that was partly to blame for its recent profit downgrade, to recover some time in calendar 2008. UMMC-holding to construct cement plant in Orenburg region

Having abandoned a plan to construct a cement plant in the Sverdlovsk region, Ural Mining & Metallurgical Company is going to implement the project in the Orenburg region. According to preliminary data, the plant’s capacities will total around 1.3Mta of cement. Lime for construction products will be mined at Orenburg deposits - Letneye and Osenneye, and processed at Gai GOK. Nearly all product of the new plant will be sold in Yekaterinburg, Kommersant-Ural said.

Indocement nine month net profit up 3.6 per cent

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk , reported a 3.6 per cent rise in its nine-month net profit despite higher costs which pushed its operating profit lower. Cement companies have raised prices by 5 rupees per 50kg bag in western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat from Nov. 1, an industry source said.     The price range for cement after the increase would range from INR222-230/bag, a source from Cement Stockists & Dealers Association of Mumbai said.

Chilean producers increase profits

Chile’s top three cement producers - Bío Bío, Polpaico and Melón - increased profits during the first nine months of 2006 compared to the same year-ago period, according to separate reports filed with the country’s securities regulator (SVS).    Cementos Bío Bío posted consolidated net profits of 43.0bn pesos (US$81.8m), a 117% jump on the 19.9bn pesos posted in the first nine months of 2005.    Revenues increased 6.1% to 249bn pesos, while operating profit dropped 10.2% to 27.9bn pesos.
