Indonesian cement industry down 2% in 1H19

The Indonesian Cement Association has reported that domestic cement sales volumes in the 1H19 dropped 2.2 per cent YoY to 29.4Mt due to weaker demand from Java (-2.8 per cent YoY) and Sumatra (-6.3 per cent YoY). This is likely to have been the result of a weak property sector, which accounted for around 70 per cent of the country's cement demand, coupled with delays in construction due to the presidential elections and the long Al-Fitr holidays. Tajikistan's cement output up in 7M19

Tajikistan has announced that around 2.328Mt of cement was produced in the country over the first seven months of 2019. According to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, this is around 209,000t higher than in January-July 2018. In 2018, the Tajik cement industry produced over 3.844Mt of cement, a 23.3 per cent YoY increase.

A report by Díario da Republica confirms that the Angolan government is to sell stakes in several state companies including cement plants to finance projects for the economic and social development of Angola. Czech cement production increased 10% in 2018

The Czech Republic’s cement output increased 9.8 per cent YoY to 4.43Mt in 2018, the largest amount since 2008, according to data from the country’s cement producers’ association. Brazilian cement sales increased 8.1 per cent YoY to 4.953Mt in July 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. The Greek construction sector saw building permits rise by 7.4 per cent in May, according to the statistics agency ELSTAT. There were 1453 building permits issued in the month covering an area of 268,900m 2 .
