Pakistan's domestic dispatches dip 6% July-August 2019

Pakistan's cement industry saw receding cement demand in the first two months of current FY20 in Pakistan. The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) attributes it to impact of economic contraction among other factors. The industry dispatched 46.88Mt of cement in 2018-19, leaving a surplus of 9.12Mt. Pakistan's cement industry saw a growth 2.2 per cent in total dispatches in FY18-19, which reached to 46.88Mt from 45.89Mt during this period, says official data of All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Belarusian cement industry yet to see a return on investment

The chairman of Belarus’ State Control Committee, Leonid Anfimau, has stated that the funds invested in the domestic industry have yet to see a return. "The state has spent huge sums of money – more than US$1bn – on the "modernisation" of cement plants, while hundreds of millions of dollars in state support have been provided. Retail cement price in El Salvador fell in August

The price for a 42.5kg bag of cement sold by retailers in San Salvador, El Salvador, fell to US$8.32/bag in August, according to Casalco, the country’s construction chamber. The drop represents the second-consecutive month of declining cement prices. In July and June, the price for a bag of cement was US$8.39 and US$8.45, respectively, after edging up from US$8.42 in May. Meanwhile, the ex-works cement price has remained stable at US$7.57/bag.

CChC reports 11% YoY rise in Chile cement dispatches in July

Cement dispatches in Chile increased by 11.3 per cent to 317,626t in July 2019 from 285,357t in July 2018, according to the Chilean construction chamber (CChC). MoM an 8.8 per cent rise was achieved, from 291,979t in June 2019. In the first seven months of 2019, total dispatches reached 2,382,831t, up 5.7 per cent when compared with January-June 2018 when deliveries were 2,254,729t.

Cement prices rise in China due to demand from construction sector

On 9 September, the construction of 10 major projects started in southwest China's Guizhou province, representing a total investment of CNY68.53bn (US$9.62bn). Malaysia's building materials are expected to se a price rise in the 3Q19 as large construction projects hike up demand for products such as cement. New 120,000tpa cement plant for El Salvador

Guatemala’s Monterrey group has laid the first stone for a new 120,000tpa cement plant on the Acajutla-Sonsonate road in Acajutla, El Salvador. Construction will be carried out by Qualicons, a Guatemalan capital construction company. The facility is located near an industrial dock, which will enable raw material imports from Asia. The new works represents an investment of US$12m and is expected to provided 600 people with employment. Commissioning of the plant is expected in December 2019.
