Egypt’s cement output stood at 2.502Mt in April 2004, down from 2.511Mt in March 2004, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said in a report.  Local cement sales reached 2.295Mt in April 2004, compared to 2.505Mt in March 2004 and 1.878Mt in February 2004. Anhui Conch Cement, China’s largest cement producer by sales and production volume, said first-half net profit rose by more than 2.5 times as prices surged on the back of the country’s property boom.  Net profits jumped to CNY794m (HK$748.5 million), or 0.63 yuan a share, in the first six months, from CNY223.7m a year earlier. The management of state-owned cement producer PT Semen Gresik (SG) has asked the government to buy back shares in Cemex to resolve a protracted dispute over Cemex’s investment in the state-owned company.
