SCL posts highest-ever monthly dispatch

Rajasthan-based Shree Cement Ltd has announced that the company registered its highest-ever monthly dispatch during July 2004, despite the monsoon. According to a press statement issued by the company, the dispatch last month was 285,000t. Chia Hsin Cement Greater China Holding Corp raised its cement prices 5% to 10% at the end of July, as China’s macroeconomic controls reined in supply. Portuguese cement company C+PA  has increased its stake in Cimpor l to a total of 4.973 per cent of its share capital from the previous 4.6 per cent, Cimpor. The current stake corresponds to a total of 5.009 pct of Cimpor’s voting rights. According to Cimpor, C+PA acquired a total of 40,000 Cimpor shares. Fujairah Cement Industries, FCI, is gearing up for an investment of AED60m for the expansion of its existing plant in Dibba according to a report in Khaleej Times. Cement production up 12% in June, Bolivia

Bolivia’s cement industry has achieved production growth of 12.3% in the first six months of the year to 572,000t compared to 510,000t in the corresponding 2003 period, according to the Bolivian institute of cement and concrete. Santa Cruz and Cochabamba departments have seen the largest growth with sales up 24.1% and 23.0% to 162,000t and 124,000t, respectively. Katavsky Cement (Chelyabinsk Region) output rosefour-fold on year to 400,000t of cement, company representatives announce. Graded cement production increased two-fold to 28,000t.  A total of 98,000t of cement was produced in July, a three-fold increase. The target for  2004 target is to produce 900,000t of cement.

Cement manufacturers told to go green, India

The advisor to the Cement Manufacturers Association has asked the cement industry in India to use fly ash, processed waste materials and green technologies to raise their production capacity while keeping the energy conservation low. He also called upon the industry to go for constant innovations and information sharing processes.

Contracts welcome cement move, UAE

The UAE Cement Contractors Union welcomed the decision to cut cement import duties, announced recently by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence. Dr Ahmed Saif Belhasa, chairman of the UAE Cement Contractors Association, said the moved would benefit developers, construction contractors and, ultimately, consumers.
