Customs to decide on Russian cement imports

Mexican company CDM (Comercio para el Desarrollo Mexicano) is expected to submit documents by Friday (Aug.6) to the federal customs authority to receive permission to import cement from Russia, a port authority official told BNamericas. Tourah Cement Co Q104 net profit soars, Egypt

The net profit of Egyptian cement company Tourah Cement Co soared to E£42.38m EUR5.7m in the first quarter of 2004 from 7.36 mln EUR987,000  in the same period of 2003. The growth in earnings followed a 60.4 per cent YoY upsurge in net sales to EUR18.9m, coupled with a 1.7 per cent increase in the cost of goods sold to EUR11.4m. As a result, gross profit jumped to EUR7.6m.

Two Indian cement majors have released shipment figures for July have reported increases in sales , YoY  with one of them reporting a steep spurt in sales. Associated Cement Companies has reported a 7.6 per cent increase in shipments, at 12.79 lakh tonnes in July 2004 (11.88 lakh tonnes). Mohammed waives cement duty

Dubai Crown Prince General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the waiver of customs duty and storage fees on cement imported by Nakheel in a bid to keep cement prices down in the Emirate. He praised the initiative by Nakheel as beneficial to the local community, reported Gulf News.

Adelaide Brighton has dipped a toe into green energy in a joint venture with Adelaide-based waste recycler Resourceco.  The 50-50 venture, Alternative Fuel Company, will provide AdBri’s Birkenhead cement kiln with wood waste sourced from demolition sites. Major cement manufacturers in India propose to enter the ready-mix concrete (RMC) segment. Associated Cement Companies (ACC) intends to add two RMC units to the existing set-up of 11 units in 2004. Madras Cements had set up two RMC plants near Chennai in 2003-2004. Chettinad Cements has set up an RMC plant near Coimbatore. Wienerberger to close two more German brick plants
