Pakistani cement sales have recorded a growth of 30 per cent in the first month of current 2004-05 fiscal year to reach at 1.362Mt compared to 1.045Mt in the same month last year. Portuguese cement company Cimpor has decided not to continue with the process of acquisition of local importer Cecime, it was reported on August 3, 2004.  The purchase operation was announced on October 28, 2004, but Cimpor decided to withdraw its notification.  Cimpor did not comment the information. The Podilski Tsement company (Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region), which is one of the three largest producers of cement in Ukraine, increased its sales output by UAH 8.81m some 14 per cent to UAH 71.76m during the April-June period of this year, compared with the corresponding period of last year.  A representative of the company disclosed this to Ukrainian News. Semapa, CRH’s Secil faces EUR900,000 cost from Outao fire

Semapa, the Portuguese cement maker jointly owned by Semapa SGPS and CRH PLC, said it faces a cost of 900,000 eur from a fire at its factory at Outao in Serra da Arrabaida last wee, Lusa newsagency reported.  The fire disrupted production for two days.  A company spokesman told Lusa that Secil will implement a fire protection plan for the woodland around Outao, which should be ready in spring 2005.

Cement prices will be maintained at their current levels for the rest of 2004 despite the surge in the price of imported clinker, Tuoi Tre quotes Deputy Minister of Construction Tong Van Nga. To help cement producers, the ministry will keep petitioning the Government to cut the tariff on imported clinker, Nga said.
