Ebonyi plant receives government approval

The establishment of Ebonyi Cement factory (EBOCEM) at Okpoto, Ishielu, Nigeria, has been approved by Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi. Meanwhile, a committee that will be led by the Commissioner for Solid Materials, Eng Francis Orji, has been set up to implement the plan. The government will hold a 10 per cent stake in the venture.

US Portland and blended cement market expands 11% in January

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 11 per cent YoY to 6.4Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). CCJ rules in favour of reducing tax on imported hydraulic cement

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has ruled that the regional tax, known as the Common External Tariff (CET), payable on cement categorised as ‘other hydraulic cement’ should be set at five per cent. The ruling endorses a rate that is a fraction of the 60 per cent tariff that Barbados-based Rock Hard Cement had once paid on imports from Portugal and Turkey, according to the Jamaica Gleaner. Peruvian cement market expands 5% in March

Peru’s cement consumption advanced 4.8 per cent to 0.931Mt in March 2019 when compared with March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. The figure includes 105,500t of cement imports, up 116 per cent from 48,900t in March 2018. Brazil’s cement sales increased 1.3 per cent YoY to 12.7Mt in the 1Q19, according to preliminary data from the country’s cement association, SNIC. Tajikistan has produced around 843,000t of cement in the first three months of 2019, an increase of nine per cent from 747,000t last year, according to Asia-Plus.
