Cimpor Cimentos de Portugal SA said France's Lafarge paid 4.07 eur per share for the additional 17,742,705 shares or 2.64 per cent stake it bought in the Portuguese cement maker on Monday from Cementos Molins SA.  This price would value the stake at Euro 72.2m The purchase lifted Lafarge's holding to 13 per cent.  Cimpor shares yesterday closed up Euro 0.08 or 1.97 per cent at Euro4.15 with 5 mlllion shares traded. Jamaican cabinet approves additional duties

The Jamaican cabinet has accepted a recommendation by the Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission to apply an additional 25.83 per cent tariff on imported cement. The additional duty, which takes immediate effect, will push the duty on imported cement to 40.83 per cent. Tunisian-Algerian Cement Company for Sale

The Tunisian-Algerian state-owned white cement company Sotacib will soon be put on sale. An international tender was recently launched to seek an investment bank that will pilot the pre-privatization phase and final sale of the company.  The bank will run an audit and a privatization strategy for the company that was established in 1983. Sotacib has a production capacity of 400,000 tons of cement per year.

Cemento Yguazu plans cement mill

Brazilian-Paraguayan cement importer Cemento Yguazu has plans to build a cement mill and clinker oven in Paraguay, according to a letter of intent signed by Cemento general manager Marcelo Castro dos Santos and addressed to Paraguay's industry and commerce minister Ernst Bergen.  The cement mill would be part of a first phase that will require investment of some US$12m and would be implemented in 10-18 months, say local sources. Serbian cement maker Novi Popovac said on December 22, 2003 it planned investments of Euro 20m for 2004.  The funds will be used for modernisation of cement production facilities and for increase of the salaries of Novi Popovac employees.
