The government of Himachal Pradesh is to approve a mining lease for the set-up of a white cement plant. Kazakhstan cement output increases to 4.6Mt in 1H18

Production at Kazakh cement plants rose 11.5 per cent YoY to 4.634Mt of cement in the first half of 2018.  In 2017 domestic output reached 4.156Mt, up 1.5 per cent  from 4.094Mt in 2016. Earlier this week, Vicat reported positive results for its Jambyl Cement subsidiary, where turnover rose by 21.4 per cent and EBITDA by 45.4 per cent on the back of a 28 per cent rise in cement volumes. The company reported good domestic volumes as well as strong export sales.

Coal India to supply cement industry through e-auctions

Coal India will supply 4.65Mta to the cement industry for five years through e-auctions starting on Tuesday, according to a senior executive at the company. Of the 4.65Mt on offer annually, 1.14Mt can be procured each year through the railways, while the rest would be supplied through roadways. Cement sales in Pakistan increased 5.1 per cent in the first month of FY18-19. In July, total cement dispatches rose to 3.554Mt from 3.382Mt in July 2017, according to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers’ Association. A Tajikistan-based cement producer has announced plans to construct a facility in Surxondaryo, Uzbekistan, in the near future, according to Kazakhstan Newsline. The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has announced 4,407,695t of cement exports in the first quarter of the calendar year (21 March 2018-21 June 2019), valued at over US$159.3m. India’s Supreme Court has finalised a ban on petcoke imports with exemptions for some key industrial users, including the cement sector. Cement demand in The Netherlands is expected to rise from just under 4.5Mt in 2017 to 5Mt in 2018, according to the Cement and Beton Centrum. Some 50-55 per cent of cement is used by the concrete industry to supply to construction sites while 35-40 per cent of total cement sales are to the concrete products sector.

National cement demand in Colombia declined 4.1 per cent to 943,200t in June 2018 from 983,500t in June 2017, according DANE, the country’s statistics office.
