Cement demand in Brazil continues fall in 1H17

Cement sales in Brazil in the 1H17 fell 8.8 per cent YoY as the domestic market required 26.015Mt of cement, according to Brazil’s cement association, Sindicato Nacional de la Industria del Cemento (SNIC). In the southeast of the country, the largest segment, sales fell from 13.12Mt in 1H16 to 12.21Mt in 1H17, representing a decrease of 6.9 per cent. Holcim Romania inaugurates new terminal

Holcim Romania has inaugurated a new cement terminal which involved an investment of RON12.5m (US$3.1m). The new terminal in the town of Roman, in the northeastern country of Neamt, will supply cement to local clients mostly, Holcim said in a press release. With an area of 13,120m 2 , the terminal is connected to the railway network and has loading and unloading automatic equipment.

Construction product manufacturers pessimistic of growth

The UK’s Construction Products Association's State of Trade Survey for 2Q17 reveals that UK construction product manufacturers experienced growth in sales and activity for the 17th consecutive quarter, but higher input costs and rising uncertainty has dampened manufacturers’ views for the near-term future. Cement consumption in Spain has increased 10.8 per cent YoY to 4,887,751t in the first five months of the year, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. A significantly-improved growth rate in May of 15.3 per cent has seen the latest monthly figure reach 1,101,046t and offset the decrease seen in April. Zambia’s president unveils plans for US$528m cement plant

President Edgar Lungu of Zambia announced the construction of a US$528m cement plant at Ndola Lime Co in the country’s Copperbelt as the country aims to diversify its economy. The investment is a joint venture between Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings and China’s Sinoconst. Pakistan dispatched 40.315Mt of cement of during fiscal year 2016-17, up 3.71 per cent YoY, the latest data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) shows. Chip Mong Insee Cement Cooperation is nearing completion of its new cement plant in Kampot province, Cambodia, according to local press reports. The US$262m factory with the capacity to produce 5,000tpd of cement is due to open by the end of the year, the Khymer Times reported.
