Ambuja Cement secures Maharashtra limestone resources

Ambuja Cement has secured a limestone resources of 42Mt in the state of Maharashtra through an e-auction by the state government. The LafargeHolcim company participated in the e-auction for a limestone block for Nandgaon Ekodi Limestone Block in Chandrapur district at a final bid price of 125.05 per cent of value of mineral dispatched.

Moroccan cement market contracts 8% in May

Cement sales in Morocco fell 7.6 per cent to 1.24Mt in May. The drop has been attributed to the recession in the real estate sector following a slump in social housing and the slowdown on construction sites as a result of the delay in the formation of a new government and adoption of Finance Law 2017. In the first five months of 2017, cement sales retreated six per cent to 6.05Mt YoY.

Swiss cement demand contracts 4.7% in 2Q17

In the second quarter of 2017, dispatches by Swiss cement producers to the domestic market have contracted by 4.7 per cent to 1,187,613t from 1,245,811t in 2Q2017, according to Cemsuisse, the country’s cement association.  In the first half of the year, dispatches slipped by 3.9 per cent YoY to 2,040,783t from 2,123,948t.

Siam City to invest in Vietnam operations

Siam City Cement Vietnam Co Ltd will invest an additional US$30-50 in its Vietnamese cement plants in Kien Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces, and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in the next 6-12 months, the Saigon Daily Times reports. Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBT) has started commercial operations from the country's first and only common-user coal, cement and clinker terminal at Port Qasim, near Karachi. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2017 were about 7.6Mt, slightly less than sales in April 2016, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. Six Saudi cement companies are expected to see a decline in their revenues and profits, by 37.1 to 62.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2017, according to a recent report by Al Rajhi Capital. UltraTech Cement has reduced prices of its products by 2-3 per cent, extending benefits of a tax reduction under the countrys Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime, local press report.
