Annapurna Cements, Nepal’s newest greenfield plant, is scheduled to go into commercial production by June-end, according to local press reports. “We have adopted advanced technologies and modern equipment,” Rajendra Rawat, director of the company told the Kathmandu Post. “We will be importing raw materials from India.” The factory plans to sell its products in Provinces 1, 2 and 3 in the first phase. Asia Cement is to reduced its mining operations in Hualien County, Taiwan, by 40 per cent amid widespread criticism at the company’s mining activities at the Sincheng site. Saudi cement sales fell by 18.7 per cent YoY in the first five months of this year to 22.6Mt, while clinker output was down 11.3 per cent, according to the Saudi Cement Sector Monthly by Al Rajhi Capital. Nepal sees rise in cement imports from India

Cement imports from India to Nepal have doubled over the first 10 months of the current fiscal, according to a report in the Himalayan Times. The value of imports of cement arriving into Nepal from its neighbouring country reached NPR16.02bn  (US$155.8m) compared to NPR7.99bn in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. The government of Somaliland, an autonomous region of Somalia, has passed over ownership of the Berbera cement plant to a Red Sea Cement, a new company jointly established by the Dahabshiil Group, Berbera Group and the Kuwaiti Kipco. EMG planning new Egyptian plant

The Electro-Mechanical Design Group (EMG) is conducting preliminary studies for the construction of a  new ce ment plant in Egypt having secured the cement licence prospectus documents.
