East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) has announced a 10 per cent reduction on the ex-factory price of its Blue Triangle Cement. Cement prices in Cuba rose substantially at the end of last week with a bag of P350 cement now priced at CUP165, up from CUP112, at retail level. Lower-grade cement has increased in price from CUP89 to CUP109.20/bag. The price rise has affected many Cubans who are repairing or building homes.

Steppe Cement price focus helps lift 1H turnover

Steppe Cement reported a 15 per cent decline in volumes for the first half of 2017 while turnover was up by four per cent over the same period as the Kazakhstan-based producer focussed on pricing. Pakistan cement producers recorded a mixed performance in total dispatches for FY17 as a double-digit decline in exports was witnessed. Cement sales in Indonesia registered a slight decline over the first half of this year, while exports sales fared better over the six-month period, according to the latest industry data. Argentina’s cement market expanded 4.1 per cent MoM to 1,007,450t in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with June 2016, the increase reached 17.2 per cent. Senegal’s cement production during the first four months of 2017 showed a slight increase of 2.5 per cent, compared to the same period in 2016, African Press Agency (APA) News reported citing the Directorate of Forecasting and Economic Studies (DPEE). Qassim Cement Co reported a 53.29 per cent YoY decline in 2Q17 net profit, while the drop on a QoQ basis was 33.63 per cent, according to a bourse filing.
