Egypt: Suez Cement to boost Helwan productivity

Chairperson of the Suez Cement Company, Omar Mohanna, has said that Suez Cement Company aims to boost productivity at Helwan Cement after completing its plan to convert the plant to run on coal. He added that the company aims to diversify energy sources to avoid the negative impacts of fuel price surges. The Suez Cement Company began using coal in its factories in Katameya and Suez, with plans in the pipeline to convert the Helwan and Torah kilns to gas firing.

Iran's 11M exports reach 11.5Mt

Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, reported that Iran exported 11.5Mt of cement during the 11 months to 18 February 2017. Mr Nematzadeh expects exports to reach 15Mt, production to hit 60Mt and output capacity to stand at 82.5Mta by the end of the current fiscal year (March 20), IRNA reported.

Cameroon cement plants produce 2.6Mt in 2016

Cameroon’s cement producers – Cimencam, Dangote, Cimaf and Necsen – have produced a combined output of 2.6Mt of cement in 2016, according to Camerpost. Total installed cement capacity in the country is 4.2Mta following the commissioning of three new cement plants in 2015-16. Following a continuous increase in its production capacity, Dangote Cement marked the end of Nigeria’s dependence on imported product by exporting 0.4Mt in 2016. Philippines cement sales rise 6.6% in 2016

Philippine cement sales increased 6.6 per cent to 25.96Mt in 2016 from 24.36Mt the previous year, according to the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP). "The annual increase in sales for 2016 shows the continuing momentum for increased infrastructure," CeMAP president Ernesto Ordonez said. US$55m loan for new Congo cement plant

The Republic of Congo and the Export-Import Bank of India have signed an agreement for a US$55m loan to finance a new cement plant in Mafoubou/Tao Tao village in the Niari department with a term of three years. The loan is payable over 25 years with a five-year grace period and at an interest rate of 1.75 per cent. Three Indian companies have already bid for the tender launched by the Indian bank. However, details about the new plant have not been disclosed.

Colombia's cement sales fall 2.8% in January

January cement sales in Colombia fell 2.8 per cent YoY to 913,190t, according to the country’s statistic office, DANE. The largest decreases were reported in Casanare and Boyacá, which saw sales decrease by 46.8 and 25.5 per cent, respectively. Antioquia reported an increase in sales of  9.1 per cent when compared with January 2015. Cement production in January 2017 reached 910,350t, down six per cent YoY. The share of bagged cement slipped by 2.8 per cent YoY.

Gas price hike to raise Bangladeshi cement prices
