China: Fujian Province cement plant collapse kills four

Four people have died following the collapse of a structure at a cement plant in Zhangzhou City, eastern Fujian Province. The incident occurred on 20 March when a building in Zhongda cement plant in Kuiyang township, Nanjing County, collapsed. Four workers were trapped, with three dying at the scene and the other passing away at hospital.

Indocement expects 3-5 per cent rise in domestic consumption

Indonesia's second-largest cement producer, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, expects domestic cement consumption to increase by 3-5 per cent in 2017, its President Director, Christian Kartawijaya, told the Jakarta Post. Semen Indonesia postpones Rembang opening

Publicly-listed cement manufacturer PT Semen Indonesia (SI) has decided to postpone the initial launch of its new production facility in Rembang, Central Java, for several months due to a prolonged dispute with the local community. “[The facility] will start commercial operation in either May or June. We are not in a hurry,” SI corporate secretary Agung Wiharto said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Monday. The production facility was initially scheduled to start operating in April.

Morocco's cement market contracted 9.9 per cent YoY in February to 1.064Mt from 1.181Mt in February 2016. Namibia’s Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, has inaugurated the country’s first refuse-derived fuel (RDF) processing plant, a joint venture between Namibian company Rent-A-Drum and Ohorongo Cement.
