Saudi cement production forecast to fall 5-10% in 2017

A number of Saudi cement companies plan to cut production by 5-10 per cent this year to deal with reduction in demands, Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper has reported. The decline is attributed to low local demands for cement and high competition with the existence of 15 companies, as well as increase in the production cost as result of the increase in the energy prices. Saudi cement companies are predicted to sell around 60Mta in 2017, the paper claims.

Jamaica: Caribbean Cement Co fire

Caribbean Cement Company (CCC) reported a fire at its administrative office on Monday, 16 January 2017. “The incident did not affect production and will not affect our ability to supply cement to the trade and our valued customers. Our customers’ trucks continue to be loaded and the incident has not disrupted supply,” a statement from the Rockfort, Kingston, company said.

India: Binani Compat appeal dismissed

Egypt: South Valley denounces new capacity project

Three private companies are reported to have gained licences for new plants in Egypt after the latest round of bidding, according to local newspapers in Egypt. The new capacity was reportedly for Elsewedy Cement, Elmasreein Cement and South Valley Cement. Peru's sees 3.4% market contraction in 2016

Cement consumption in Peru fell 5.2 per cent to 836,000t in December 2016, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Exports decreased 43.5 per cent to 27,000t from 47,000t in December 2015. Cement production in December reached 886,000t, representing a 4.8 per cent decline YoY. Cement demand in Colombia fell by 4.6 per cent in November 2016 to 1.019Mt when compared with November 2015, according to DANE, the country's statistics office.
