Thailand's Siam Cement Group plans to expand its operations in Vietnam, especially in the cement and  petrochemical sectors. Dem Rep Congo: cement price notes 10.6% drop in Kinshasa

The price of cement in the Kinshasa market experienced a -10.6 per cent fall. The price of a 50kg bag fell from CDF12,300 (US$13.34) to CDF11,000. The price fall is due to a combination of factors including the low activity on building sites, particularly following Christmas and New Year as well as a scarcity of bank notes in circulation. Normal sales of cement reach around 50-100 bags per day.

The Construction Product Association’s latest State of Trade Survey reports a slowdown in growth in sales of construction products in the fourth quarter of 2015, owing to domestic weakness and a fall in export sales. Cement industry statistics show that full-year 2015 consumption in Indonesia increased by 0.8 per cent YoY to 60.4Mt, while including exports, sales were up by 2.1 per cent to 61.448Mt. While December 2015 showed a rise in Indonesian sales (+2 per cent including exports) the full-year figures are only modestly higher due to the poor sales in the earlier months of 2015. In November 2015 compared with October 2015, seasonally-adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 0.8 per cent in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.7 per cent in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. US November shipments - preliminary data

Preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows that Portland and blended cement shipments in November 2015 reached 7.3Mt including 767,000t of imports. Shipments for the year to the end of November totalled 84.93Mt, the provisional data shows. Of the total, imports represented 8.93Mt. Clinker production in November was 6.76Mt and for the first 11 months of 2015 reached 69.62Mt, according to the preliminary figures.

New Cameroon plant agreement signed

Mira Company has signed an agreement with the Cameroon’s Ministry of Industry and Technological Development to construct a 1Mta cement plant in Douala. The deal allows the Swiss engineering company to benefit from provisions in Cameroon’s law which offers incentives to private sector investors in the central African country. Zambia: New Ndola plant under planning

The Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment (ZCCM-IH) is planning to establish a 5000tpd cement plant in Ndola, the Times of Zambia reports. ZCCM-IH Chief Executive Officer, Pius Kasolo, said the plant, which would be set up at Ndola Lime in the Copperbelt, would be completed in three years. “We have diversified and we are planning to set up a cement plant in Ndola with an initial investment of about US$600m," Dr Kasolo told the national daily.
