Brazil: Cimpor temporarily suspends Parana plans

Cimpor has temporarily suspended plans to build a plant in Parana state, Brazil, due to the economic slowdown in the country, company president Ricardo Lima said in a recent interview. Cimpor originally announced plans for the new plant in Itaiacoca district in 2011.The project was set to have an initial production capacity of about 1.2Mta, and generate approximately 1000 direct and indirect jobs.

Vicem sales climb 4.2% in 2015

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the country’s leading cement producer, said it sold about 22.97Mt of cement and clinker in 2015, rising 4.2 per cent from a year ago and fulfilling 96.3 per cent of the whole-year’s target. Algoma JV to create a global fleet of cement carriers

Canada-headquartered Algoma Central Corp announced Friday that it has entered into a joint venture agreement with Nova Marine Holding SA of Luxembourg and its subsidiaries to create a specialised global fleet of cement carriers to support infrastructure projects worldwide. US October shipments down 2.2% YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in October 2015 were about 9.3Mt, down by 2.2 per cent from the level in October 2014, data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Peru’s cement dispatches remained stable in December 2015 as they reached 881,000t while total dispatches edged up one per cent to 928,000t, according to Asocem, the country’s cement producers’ association. Canada cement production down 12.2% MoM

Cement manufacturers in Canada produced 1.11Mt of cement products in November, down 12.2 per cent from October, according to the country's national statistical agency. Data from Statistics Canada show domestic cement shipments fell 15 per cent from October to 1.08Mt in November. Including imports, shipments were down 19.9 per cent to 1.10Mt.
