USA: Charlevoix cement plant expansion cleared

The Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners has approved the proposal by St Marys Cement to expand its cement plant in the Michigan state. St Marys Cement Inc, part of the Votorantim Group, is planning a US$130m upgrade to the Charlevoix plant which would increase production capacity from 1.3Mta to nearly 2Mta. Vietnam monthly output up 27% YoY

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 5.2Mt of cement in January, down 8.1 per cent from December 2014 but up 27 per cent from a year ago, according to the government's General Statistics Office (GSO). In December 2014, the country’s cement output stood at 5.7Mt, according to the revised figure. The GSO also revised down the country’s cement output in 2014 to 54.1Mt, from earlier estimated of 59.8Mt.

Saudi firms’ net profit up 6% YoY

The net profit of the Saudi cement firms has registered an increase by six per cent in 2014, reaching US$1.56bn compared with US$1.48bn recorded in 2013, Arab News reported. Attock Cement reported a 24 per cent rise in profit during 2QFY14-15 of PKR554m (US$5.5m) compared to PKR449m in the same period of last year. Al Jouf net profit advances 11.6% in 2014

Saudi-based Al Jouf Cement recorded a net profit of SAR60.4m (US$16.1m) for 2014, up from SAR54.1m in 2013, the company said in a statement to the Saudi Stock Exchange. The increase was attributed to lower cost of sales and general and marketing expenses, according to the company. Earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 0.46 in 2014, versus SAR0.42 a year ago. Uzbekistan: Ahangarancement full-year output rises

Ahangarancement, part of Eurocement Group, produced 1.24Mt of clinker and 1.7Mt of cement in 2014, a YoY increase of 6.2 per cent (72,500t) and five per cent (80,400t), respectively. The company said that its shipments rose by 6.5 per cent to 1.72Mt in 2014, (+105,300t). During the year, Ahangarancement started to produce cement types PC 400 KD20 SSPC 400 D20 in 2014, of which it produced 84,610t and 47,922t respectively.
