US December shipments – preliminary data

Portland and blended cement shipments in December 2014 reached 6.24Mt, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. This takes full-year shipments to 88.53Mt, according to the initial indicators. Imports during December amounted to 545,259t, while for the full year they reached 7.31Mt. Clinker production for the final month of the year was 6.46Mt. For the full year clinker output totalled 74.93Mt. The full monthly report will be published in approximately two weeks.

EAC producers call for review and uniformity of standards

Tasek Corporation Bhd's net profit rose 11.86 per cent to MYR105.4m (US$29.1m) compared to MYR93.90m a year earlier despite heightened competition. Pokot Cement plans to construct a power plant to supply its upcoming cement works in Kenya as well as the national grid. Peru’s cement dispatches fell 1.7 per cent in January due to an unfavourable construction climate and the change of local and regional governments, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Spain’s cement consumption rose by 5.2 per cent YoY to 769,838t in January 2015, according to Oficemen, the domestic cement association. The latest figures show an acceleration in growth, which at the end of 2014 stood at 0.4 per cent and noted the first annual increase since 2007. AdBri secures Western Australia supply agreement

Adelaide Brighton has secured an ongoing supply agreement with a cement customer in Western Australia for a term of three years until 31 December 2017, the company announced in a statement today.
