Suez Cement to invest in conversion to coal

Suez Cement, Italcementi’s Egyptian unit, said on Tuesday it planned to spend EGP600m (US$84m) in 2015 on equipping two factories to run on coal. CEO Bruno Carre said in a statement to the bourse the firm would develop its Helwan and Tora 2 factories "to use coal and residues to compensate for the lack of energy supplies." Caricom Cement Company Inc has officially opened the first cement plant in Guyana in the presence of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds. Dominican Republic full-year sales seen rising 18% YoY

Nepal: Sarbottam Cement launches commercial operations

Sarbottam Cement, a newcomer to the Nepalese cement industry, has started commercial operations from its new greenfield plant. The project is promoted by local company Saurabh Group while a foreign investor holds a 45 per cent stake. The Sarbottam Cement plant will have the capacity to produce 400,000t of clinker in the first stage, and then 1Mt in the future, according to the company's website. The new cement facility is also equipped with its own power plant.

Saudi monthly sales up 39% YoY

Saudi Arabia's cement sales rose 39 per cent YoY to 5.09Mt in November 2014 from 3.65Mt in November 2013, according to statistics published by Saudi cement producer Yamama Cement Co. Of the total, domestic sales accounted for 5.03Mt, up 40 per cent YoY. Exports stood at 60,000t, up from 50,000t. Ghana’s largest cement producer, Ghacem, said that ongoing power cuts to manufacturing industries have “significantly” reduced its output, leading to concerns on supply shortages and a potential rise in prices. Vietnam exported about 19Mt of clinker and cement in the first 11 months of this year, surpassing the whole-year target by 26.67 per cent, the Vietnam Building Material Association said.
