Peru: Jidong to finalise acquisition talks

The Jidong Development Group of China may finalise discussions over the takeover of Peruvian cement firm Cementos Interoceanicos in the next few weeks, Esmerk Latin American News reported on Wednesday. Jidong representatives have visited Cementos Interoceanicos’ activities in Puno, southeast Peru, as part of the negotiation process, the report stated, adding that the Peruvian company is currently developing its manufacturing facility in the region.

South Africa sees pick-up in 3Q cement sales

South African cement sales rose by 4.6 per cent to 3.39Mt in the third quarter of 2014 after contracting in the previous two quarters, industry data released by the country’s leading producer shows. The price of cement rose by 4.3-5 per cent at the end of December 2014, depending on supplier, according to the national daily La Nacion. The first to adjust prices, by five per cent upwards, was Cemex on 22 December, followed five days later by Holcim, which increased prices by 4.3 per cent. PT Semen Indonesia Tbk has prepared capital expenditures worth IDR7-9trn (US$550m-706m), to fund new plants, upgrades and possibly further international expansion. JSW Cement has set its sights on expanding production capacity with several grinding projects under study in the south of India. The 26 July cement works in Nuevitas, Cuba, completed its 2014 production plan with over 129,000t. In 2015 it is expected that the plant will deliver product for key construction projects in the province of Camagüey and further afield places such as Ciego de Ávila, las Tunas, Holguín y Granma.
