Nepalese factory gets set to launch commercial production

Arghakhanchi Cement is set to start commercial production from its greenfield works next week. The cement factory has a clinker and cement capacity of 1200tpd and 1000tpd, respectively.  Finished product will be sold under the Arghakhanchi Cement brand. Semen Indonesia seeks loan for Aceh plant construction

PT Semen Indonesia is seeking loans worth IDR2.2-3.1trn (US$178m-251m) to build a new cement factory in Aceh province, at the northern end of Sumatra, Kontan newspaper reported citing Finance Director Ahyanizzaman. The new facility is expected to have a capacity of around 3Mta to meet increasing consumption in Aceh, Medan, Dumai and Riau. Construction is slated to begin in the first half of 2015.

US September shipments up 14% YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico during September 2014 were 9Mt, up by nearly 14 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year. Pakistan’s cement dispatches rose by 11 per cent YoY in November 2014 to 3Mt largely thanks to higher domestic demand and exports from the northern region. Cement sales in Vietnam jumped 16 per cent YoY to 64.46Mt in the first 11 months of this year, fulfilling the whole-year target, according to the government’s data. Of the sum, 46.16Mt were sold in the domestic market, rising eight per cent YoY and meeting 94 per cent of the year’s plan. Indonesia: PT Conch South Kalimantan cement plant on-stream

PT Conch’s greenfield cement plant has come on-stream in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, with an installed capacity of 1.5Mta. Construction of the factory began in 2012 and has involved an investment of US$202m. The French cement market continues to contract with the country’s cement association, SFIC, released its provisional November 2014 data. Market demand fell 11.8 per cent YoY to 1.347Mt against a 10.6 per cent YoY drop noted the previous month, when domestic cement sales reached 1.726Mt. Boko Haram militants raid Lafarge's Ashaka works, Nigeria

Boko Haram militants on Thursday stormed the Lafarge-owned cement factory in Ashaka, Gombe state, as part of an attack on two towns in northeast Nigeria. Antracem calls for revision of collective agreements

The coordinator of the National Association of Cement Workers in Venezuela (Antracem), has claimed that around 75 per cent of the more than 9000 workers employed within the local cement industry earn the minimum salary, adding that collective agreements have not been updated since 2008.
