Siam Cement Group plans greenfield Laos plant

Siam Cement Group, Thailand's largest industrial conglomerate, is set to construct a greenfield cement factory in Laos, president and chief executive Kan Trakulhoon, has revealed. The Bangkok Post reported that the board of directors have approved a plan to build the works with a cement capacity of 1.8Mta. The new plant, to be located in Khammouane province, will become operational in the second quarter of 2017.

Pakistan export volumes have seen a decline in the first nine months of the current fiscal both in terms of volumes and dollar value. However, latest monthly figures show a significant increase in exports to India. Chinese sector set for turbulent ride – MS

The Chinese cement industry is in for a turbulent ride, according to analysts at Morgan Stanley, as falling construction starts and infrastructure investment affect demand. Cemex Latin American Holdings' turnover increased by 10.3 per cent in first quarter of the year to US$422.8m, but the EBITDA was just 0.2 per cent ahead at US$141m. Peruvian producer Cementos Pacasmayo reported a drop in net income of 11.8 per cent YoY to PEN39.8m (US$14.1m) in the first quarter of 2014. EBITDA came in at PEN80.7m compared to PEN81.3m in the corresponding period of 2013. Sales of local cement manufacturers grew by 8.6 per cent to 5.2Mt in the first three months of the year, on the back of continued growth in the construction and real estate industries. Full-year Iranian exports reach 18Mt

Iran exported around 18Mt of cement in the Iranian calendar year that ended on 20 March 2014, IRNA cited a report published by the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade on Sunday.   The Tehran Times noted that the country’s annual cement output is currently about 80Mt, of which 50Mt is used domestically. In August 2012, former Iranian Industry, Mines and Trade Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari said that the country's cement production capacity would reach 110Mt by 2015.
