PT Semen Indonesia has allocated US$200m for the acquisition of a cement plant in Myanmar, Agung Wiharto, corporate secretary of the Indonesian cement group has revealed. The deal will not be completed this month, as previously expected, but due diligence is currently underway. Kazakhstan: Standard Cement to launch second production line in 2015

Standard Cement LPP plans to launch a second production line in south Kazakhstan in 2015, bringing total capacity of the facility to 2.3Mta. The line will have a design capacity of 1Mta, with equipment supplied by Tianjin Cement Industry Design & Research Institute (TCDRI), China. The company intends to expand its product range to include M500-M700 high-quality cement and oil well cement.

Ecuador 1Q14 sales ahead

Ecuador cement sales during January-March 2014 period reached 1.522Mt, a 2.5 per cent increase compared to 1.485Mt sold in the first quarter of last year, latest data from domesic cement and concrete institute INECYC shows. March 2014 sales totalled 497,601t, down 0.4 per cent from the same period of last year when dispatches reached 499,743t. Sales were also down when compared to February 2014 (511,795t), representing a 2.8 per cent MoM decline.

Brazil’s first quarter sales rose 6.4 per cent YoY to 17.1Mt, preliminary data from SNIC shows. Sales in March reached 5.6Mt, representing YoY growth of 1.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2013. Cumulative sales for the last 12 moths (April 2013 – March 2014) rose by 4.3 per cent against the comparative period  of the previous year (April 12 – March 2013).

Qatar consumption forecast to double by FY17

Cement consumption in Qatar is expected to double from current levels within the next three years, a new report has forecast. Dubai-based financial services firm Arqaam Capital said in its report on Qatar’s cement sector released this week that consumption will be driven by heavy government infrastructure spending.
