BK Birla-led Century Textiles is ramping up cement capacity to 12.8Mta by end-FY14 even as it described the present over-capacity situation as a major concern for the sector. French cement maker Vicat has emerged as a surprise frontrunner to acquire a cement unit of southern conglomerate Shriram Group. Saudi cement producer Eastern Province Cement Co (EPC) said in a bourse statement that it launched  trial operations of its new production line yesterday. The new kiln line will have a cement capacity of 600tpd. The trial period will take three months.

Congressman Mike Turner recently took a tour of Cemex’s Fairborn plant. The factory,  which has been in operation for more than 80 years, is one of two operating cement plants in the state of Ohio. The Austrian cement industry saw stable sales in 2012 despite difficult operating conditions and a sluggish economy, according to the country’s cement association, VÖZ.
