Poland's 1H sales see double-digit decline

Cement sales and ouput in Poland continue to feel the pinch following the completion of construction activity related to the 2012 European Football Championships, as double-digit declines are registered in the first half of this year. Iranian exports surpass 5Mt mark

Iran cement and clinker exports for the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year crossed the 5Mt mark. Exports for the period stood at 5.075Mt, which represented a 50 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year. Cement exports represented 4.21Mt of the total. Shiva Cement to raise capacity by 1Mta

Shiva Cement, in which ACC Ltd holds a 12.65 per cent stake, plans to increase capacity by 1Mta at its cement plant in Odisha on the east coast of India. The company currently has a capacity of 0.132Mta at the works in Rourkela and plans to invest INR270 crore to raise its volumes. RP Gupta, chairman and managing director of Shiva Cement, said the project is expected to be completed by the first half of 2015 with plans for a further increase also in the pipeline.

ICL gets green light for New South Wales facility, Australia

Independent Cement and Lime Pty Ltd (ICL) has received permission to build a cement and ground slag facility in a section of the former BHP Steelworks site at Mayfield North, Newcastle, New South Wales. The plant will receive about 600,000t of dry bulk cement and about 200,000tpa of ground slag, according to the environmental assessment. Gazakh Cement has officially opened its new production line in the presence of Ilham Aliyev, president of Azerbaijan. Swiss cement deliveries advance 2.3% in 1H13

In the second quarter of 2013, the domestic deliveries of the Swiss cement industry increased 1.8 per cent when compared with 2Q12, according to the latest data from CemSuisse, the Swiss cement association. Dispatches rose from 1.286Mt in 2Q12 to 1.262Mt. In the first half-year, deliveries increased 2.3 per cent from 2.06Mt in 1H12 to 2.11Mt, reflecting the active construction market in the country. For the end of the year, a stable to slightly contracting volume can be expected.

Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) is set to increase cement prices for the third time in 2013, this time due to the depreciation of the Jamaican dollar against the US dollar.
